How To Reduce Pain

PRESS PLAY ABOVE FOR SAMPLE AUDIO

Research into pain is among the most exciting areas of medicine, with the discovery of more and more centres in the body which produce substances which act on the brain, relieving pain. This has opened new opportunities for physiotherapy, pain-relieving therapeutic drugs and deep relaxation.
Physiotherapy is used to diminish pain and repair any damage done. Therapeutic drugs can be used to block the pain ‘pathways’ in the nerves(or work on the body’s pain treatment centres).
Deep Relaxation is a technique used to enable a person to reach into the subconscious part of the mind. When we are deeply relaxed, thoughts which we know to be true are able to sink in the form of feelings into our subconscious mind. When our subconscious mind understands that a pain is serving no useful purpose, it is able to cut it off. Deep Relaxation may be used in combination with other treatments or by itself.
Dr Jack Gibson performed many operations using Deep Relaxation techniques in combination with a local anaesthetic. On several thousand occasions Deep Relaxation alone was used. These procedures were painless; some were life-saving.
The first half of this Recording explains how the human mind is made up, and how pain can be cut off or diminished. The second half explains how to practise Deep Relaxation. We recommend you practise this once or twice each day until you achieve a feeling of release.
